The beach of Ficogrande is located north of the port of the island. It is a black sandy beach that cover about two kilometers in the eastern part of the island. The the first part of the beach is usually occupied by local fishermen, who leave their boats there. The rock of Strombolicchio, which form a stunning backdrop to the coast, arose about 360,000 years ago as a result of one of the oldest volcanic events of the Aeolian Islands .
