| The current building , situated a few kilometers away from the town of Lipari, went into operation probably in 1872, for the exploitation of thermal springs known and used since ancient times. In 1984 the discovery of an ancient Mycenaean Tholos suggested the archaeologists that these spas have been used since the fifteenth century B.C. This was therefore the oldest spa building of the Mediterranean Sea. The Thermal Baths are closed since 1975 and from 2011 have been used as a museum area and cultural events. |
