Blue Tourism, Experiences and Best Practices from Italian Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)

The event will feature the participation of various sea protection experts and will be an opportunity to share experiences of sustainable tourism development in MPAs. The event, coordinated by Nesos, is part of the “Salina Blue Island” project, supported by the Blue Marine Foundation and the Sicily Environment Fund, which supports local communities and visitors in the process of establishing the Salina Marine Protected Area. The event has the patronage of the municipalities of Salina, the Salina Marine Protected Area Committee, the Responsible Fishing Association of the Aeolian Islands, and Federalberghi Isole Minori della Sicilia.

Speakers will include Giovanni Mangano (President of the Capo Milazzo Marine Protected Area), Salvatore Livrieri Console (Director of the Egadi Islands MPA), Alessandro Ciccolella (Director of the Torre Guaceto MPA), Stefano Donati (Director of the Circeo National Park), Sebastiano Venneri (Head of Tourism for Legambiente), Marco Platania (University of Catania), Luigi Scrofani (University of Catania), Christian Del Bono (President of Federalberghi Aeolian Islands), and Renato Grimaldi (marine conservation expert).

Closing remarks will be delivered by Giulia Bernardi (Italian Project Manager for the Blue Marine Foundation).
