Exhibition Genius Loci by Renata Conti

Saturday, July 12 at 7:00 PM, the solo exhibition GENIUS LOCI by Renata Conti will open at the Chapel of Villa Santa Lucia in Lipari, under the patronage of the Municipality of Lipari.

“How many times,” explains the artist, “have we looked at the landscapes of our islands and felt that they are more than just a location — that they are a place with a hidden, deep essence that makes them unique and distinctive?

This isn't just about the beauty of the scenery, but about the spirit of a place and its people — its vital energy — which, in ancient Roman religion, was called the Genius Loci. More precisely, for the Romans, the Genius Loci was the deity that guarded a place, its identity, and its destiny.

I chose to live in Lipari a long time ago, and it is here — not elsewhere — that my journey in painting began. The Genius Loci of the islands chose me, and over the past winter, I set out in search of it through my painting, convinced that a landscape can tell much more than what we see. The Genius Loci exhibition is the result of this work.

I also wanted to accompany my canvases with the words of a dialect poem by Davide Cortese, which fully expresses the sense of belonging to these islands of ours.”

The exhibition will remain open until July 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
