Il Gelso Vacanze is a resort in the form of a Bed and Breakfast, situated in Salina, otherwise known as the Green Pearl, at the heart of the Aeolian Islands. Its strategic position, in a peaceful area, 200m from the sea, 700m from the Fishermen’s Marina and 300m from the inhabited centre Malfa, means that bars, restaurants, newsstands, pharmacies, supermarkets, banks and other commercial enterprises are within easy reach.Pass through the entrance road which is shaded by pine trees, and there is access to a private car park. The internal pathways, surrounded by flowers and flourishing plants, lead to the rooms, all which have separate entrances by means of a private terrace, complete with a sea view. The restoration of this ancient residence mirrors typical Aeolian architecture. All of the rooms face the bower terrace (bagghiu), the view from which is almost always directed towards the sea. Around the edge of this terrace, there are still the ancient masonry stone seats (bisola). The columns (pulere) hold the roof of the terrace, which is made of wattle and luxuriant bougainvillea. It was like this in ancient times, and it is still like this today.

- Gelso - Three nights in a picturesque natural setting
Il Gelso Vacanze on the island of Salina was just magic. Magnificent views over the water and a lovely free and easy feeling. Rooms were all very private and surrounded by lots of greenery. The hammock on the porch overlooking the water with the light breeze was the extra touch! Wonderful!
- Absolutely Perfect
We stayed here in September and thought it was perfect. We stayed on Salina for 4 nights before going to Panarea and then Palermo. Gianfranco is extremely helpful, providing excellent recommendations, bus timetables, a lovely breakfast and friendly atmosphere. Each little apartment has a large terrace and hammock and we had a spare bedroom so there was plenty of space. The views from the terrace were beautiful and it was a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a glass of wine on a warm evening. It's a short walk to the town or to the beach and a couple of wonderful restaurants are nearby, including the one at Signum. The bus service on Salina is actually very reliable and easy so day trips were no issue at all. All in all I would highly recommend Il Gelso as a warm, friendly and beautiful spot in a perfect location.
