The Castle of Lipari is the citadel rebuilt by the Spaniards after the Sack of Ariadeno Barbarossa (1544) on the acropolis and is still the focal point of the historic center of the town. It was inhabited over the centuries, the testimonies of these settlements are still partly visible on the castle fortress. From the Neolithic Age, through the Greek and Roman eras, and from the Norman domination to the Spanish one , the citadel is a place of priceless historical and cultural value. |
